Former Ekiti Governor Ayodele Fayose is the latest Nigerian vying for the position of President come 2023. He has unfolded his ambition to serve as the next president.
“May I also state clearly that I will be seeking the ticket of the PDP to contest the next presidential election,” he said in a statement in Lagos.
The former Governor said he has never endorsed former Anambra Governor Peter Obi for president on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Fayose said the report credited to him that he had endorsed Obi and zoning of the Presidency to the Southeast is false.
Fayose added: “No doubt, I have great respect for Peter Obi as a leader and I respect his aspiration, but at no point did I endorse his presidential ambition or that the presidency be zoned to Southeast.
“Rather, my take is that the presidency be zoned to the Southern part of Nigeria.”
Fayose joins the likes of Nyesom Wike, Aminu Tambuwal who also recently declared their intention. Others are Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Rochas Okorocha, Atiku Abubakar, Bukola Saraki, Bala Mohammed, Anyim Pius Anyim, Dele Momodu, Dave Umahi, and Orji Uzor Kalu are some prominent names who have expressed interest in taking over from Buhari in 2023.
