Ahead Of 2023 AFCON, Sports Minister Receives Super Eagles Head Coach Peseiro

Ahead of Nigeria’s 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying campaign against Sierra Leone at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja on Thursday, 9th June 2022, the country’s Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Sunday Dare, received the new Super Eagles head coach Jose Peseiro as he was officially presented by the leadership of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

The NFF 2nd Vice President and League Management Company (LMC) Chairman, Shehu Dikko, led the NFF delegation to present the Super Eagles coach to the Sports Minister.

Peseiro has lost his first two games in charge of the Supers Eagles as they were defeated 2-1 by Mexico and 1-0 by Ecuador in International Friendly matches played in the USA. However, the new Super Eagles boss remains optimistic about bringing success to the team.

“I came here for one goal, I want to win the next AFCON for my fantastic players and for Nigerians,” Peseiro said. “I am confident because I believe in this team, I believe in the quality and the number of good players.

“I have followed Nigeria’s history in football from 1994 and other successful teams and I want to bring back that joy again.”

Dare also shared a few words as he advised Peseiro on ways he could adapt and blend into the Nigerian culture to help with the progress of the Super Eagles.

“In order to be able to appreciate the deep love of our people for the game and why they want their team to win all the time, you have to live in our country, enjoy our food, our weather, our hospitality,” Minister Dare said.

“I want to let you know that the process that produced you was governed by diligence, commitment and spirit of teamwork, and indeed very thorough. I believe that you will use this opportunity to make a mark by leading the Super Eagles to new heights.”

The Super Eagles of Nigeria will kick off its 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying campaign against Sierra Leone at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja on Thursday, 9th June 2022.

Thursday’s match will give Nigerians an insight into what to expect from the new technical crew led by Jose Peseiro, as he will be coaching the Super Eagles on Nigerian soil for the first time.
