COVID 19: With 1,031 Cases On New Year Eve, Nigeria’s Total Infection Hit 87, 510

The Nigeria Centre For Disease Control has disclosed that the country recorded 1,031 new cases of coronavirus on New Year Eve, Thursday, December 31, 2020.

The agency also said 11 deaths and 391 recoveries were recorded in the last 24 hours in the country.

A breakdown of data on the agency’s website showed that the country has so far tested 948,048 persons since the first confirmed COVID-19 case on February 27, 2020.

A further breakdown of data available data on the NCDC’s website revealed that as of Thursday – New Year eve, a total of 87, 510 cases have been confirmed, 73, 713 discharged and 1,289 dead in 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

“On the 31st of December 2020, 1031 new confirmed cases and 11 deaths were recorded in Nigeria. To date, 87,510 cases have been confirmed, 73,713 cases have been discharged and 1,289 deaths have been recorded in 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

The 1031 new cases are reported from 16 states- Lagos (570), FCT (117), Kaduna (109), Nasarawa (34), Bauchi (31), Kano (28), Plateau (26), Sokoto (26), Ogun (25), Edo (18), Rivers (16), Abia (10), Imo (seven), Taraba (six), Delta (four) and Osun (four).

A multi-sectoral national emergency operations centre, activated at Level 3, continues to coordinate the national response activities” the agency said.

The agency further explained that Thursday’s discharges include 53 community recoveries in Lagos State managed in line with guidelines.
