Following the rising spate of insecurity and wanton destruction of lives and properties, A youth group of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP New Generation has described the incessant killings and attacks by terrorists codenamed ‘bandits’ as unwarranted and sheer wickedness on the part of the ruling party, All Progressive Congress (APC).
In a joint statement by the Director-General of the group, Audu Mahmood, and Dare Akinniyi, Director, Media & Strategy, PDP New Generation revealed that Nigerians are on ‘autopilot’, as their safety can’t be guaranteed anywhere in Nigeria.
“In not more than 48 hours after attacking the Kaduna Airport, killing an aviation worker and injuring many; Terrorists blew up Abuja-Kaduna Train with some 970 passengers onboard. There have been various accounts about how the terrorists might have succeeded in derailing the train, which reportedly left the station in Abuja around 6 pm yesterday. But it is evident that Nigerians are no longer safe in Nigeria under the APC.”
“When similar incidence occurred under the President Goodluck Jonathan led administration, Gov. Nasir El-Rufai in his tweet on the 1st of February, 2015; accused President Goodluck Jonathan of sponsoring a genocide on the North-Eastern part of Nigeria. Going by his words, and now with the same inference; can we now accuse him, the president, and his party the same?”
It is crystal clear that the ruling party is dead and as such can’t do anything to save Nigerians. It is safe to say we are on ‘autopilot’ Mahmood said.
On his part, Akinniyi drew the inference from an international magazine, The Economist’s report in 2021 which stated that Nigeria’s insecurity has worsened since President Muhammadu Buhari assumed office in 2015, he lamented that the situation today is nothing but sheer disaster.
“The issue of insecurity has reached a point where the current strategies being adopted by the Buhari-led administration has failed and are in no way adequate to guarantee safety for all Nigerians.
The resurgence of killings and mayhems that have visited our roads, railways, and airports in the last few weeks might have revealed a carelessness of leadership at the federal level in being proactive towards addressing justly reported cases of attacks and threats to lives and properties.
We need to recreate hope, we need to make Nigeria safe and united – these are the burdens on the next government to be formed by the PDP” Akinniyi said.
