  • Buhari Vows To Crush Terrorists Banditry
  • Terrorists Threaten To Abduct Buhari, El-Rufai

The worrying security challenges rocking the country was again on Sunday brought to the fore .

Early on Sunday, a video emerged from the terrorists who bombed a Kaduna-bound train on March 28, 2022.

In the horrifying 11-minute video released by the terrorists, the male victims were separated from the women, after which they were flogged mercilessly with make-shift canes.

The exhausted victims appealed to the international community such as the United Nations, African Union and Saudi Arabia to come to their aid since according to them, the Nigerian government has failed to rescue them from the hands of the terrorists.

A male captive stated that the terrorists had no intention of keeping them for more than a week if the demands of the kidnappers were not met by the Federal Government.

The terrorists were also seen threatening to kill the victims if the Federal Government failed to meet up with their demands. They also claimed that one of the escapees of the Nigerian Correctional Centre, Kuje, Abuja had rejoined them in the forest.

An inconsolable woman was also seen screaming at her captors saying “This is all you can do. You will not end well for humiliating us like this. God will bring an end between us. What did we do to you?

One of the terrorists declared that they were coming for President Buhari and Governor Nasir El-Rufai as they will be brought before them and suffer the same fate as their captives,

“We want your government officials to know that we will kill these people if you don’t meet our demand. One of the Kuje break escapees spoke that he is here in the forest with his brothers,” a member of the gang said.

“We know that the government is planning to rescue these people by force but we want you to know that every committee you set up, we are aware. You use guns and aircraft but we will conquer.”

The terrorists also said their act was the will of God and will not hesitate to make slaves of the captives just as was done to the Chibok school girls who were abducted in 2014.

“We’re doing the will of God and this is small compared to what you will see if you don’t grant our wish.”

“This is our message to the government of Nigeria and just as you have seen these people here, by God’s grace, you will see your leaders; your senators and governors will come before us.’

“These ones you are seeing here, we will keep some as our slaves and sell them off just as our Imam told you in the past,” he said. Just like the Chibok girls that were sold off, we will equally sell these ones as slaves.” one of the terrorists added.

Reacting to the video, the Presidency, in a statement titled Latest Version Of Terror Propaganda And Military Readiness, the Senior Special Assistant to President Buhari on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu disclosed that security forces are not helpless in stemming the tide of insecurity confronting the country.

He knocked the terrorists for using what he described as propaganda to compel the government to yield to their demands.

“Terrorist activity using propaganda and the use of violence to force governments to accept or submit to political demands is not new all over the world.

The country’s security and defense forces are not clueless or helpless. They have their plans and ways of doing things that they will not display in the media.

The dilemmas in dealing with the specific case of train terrorists are manifold: punitive action like the popular call for carpet bombing of the known locations may assuage the desire of an angry public for revenge, but what about the hostages? They have committed no offense. All they did was board a train.

It suffices to say that the security forces are not relenting. They are acutely aware of their duties, responsibilities and what the nation expects of them. Whenever they embark upon those actions, they expect that the public should provide them with the needed support.

Terrorism is a global scourge that must be fought by all actors- the military, the civilian population and the communication service providers. This is the only way safe havens for terrorists are eliminated in every part of the world.

To help the nation against the ongoing situation, the media must increase their support for the fight against the exploitation of the internet and social media for terrorist purposes.

The Presidency, in the meantime, wishes to reassure the public that the President has done all, and even more than what is expected of him as Commander-in-Chief by way of morale, material, and equipment support to the military and expects nothing short of good results in the immediate” the statement said.

It will be recalled that in a fresh video released, the terrorists threatened to kill the remaining victims in their captivity and sell some off, a situation that renewed calls for the Federal Government to come to their rescue.

It would also be recalled that at least eight people were killed, including a youth leader of the ruling APC, Amin Mahmoud, a medical doctor, frontline lawyer, Tibile Mosugu, Chinelo Megafu Chinelo, and the secretary-general, of the Trade Union Congress, TUC, Barrister Musa Lawal-Ozigi are amongst the victims of the unfortunate incident.

Hundreds of victims were kidnapped by the terrorists after the attack. The terrorists had repeatedly threatened to kill the abductees if their demands are not met by the Federal Government.
