Former Registrar of the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board, JAMB, Professor Lawrence Ojerinde, and the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission, ICPC, have failed to agree on the terms for the plea bargain proposal in the trial of the erstwhile helmsman of the university admission body over an alleged N5 billion fraud.
The two parties on Tuesday failed to strike a deal and seal the out of court settlement, as expected at the Federal High Court in Abuja.
Ojerinde was reportedly willing to forfeit all assets acquired while serving government but ICPC insisted on taking over all assets so far traced to him, including schools, companies and cash in banks.
ICPC’S lawyer, Ebenezer Sogunle informed Justice Obiora Egwuatu that the ICPC was ready to proceed with the trial since the agreement had failed.
Confirming the development, the defendant’s counsel, Mr. Ibrahim Ishyaku, SAN, said his client was ready to stand trial on the charges.
