Ondo State Governor Akeredolu has kicked against agitation for the Oduduwa Republic, saying failed politicians are behind the agitation.
The governor of Ondo State urged those people to take the lead in calling for stakeholder discussions before imposing their ideas on the Yoruba. He said that the state will not tolerate secessionist gatherings.
He emphasized that citizens have the right to discuss, agitate, and fight against legitimate faults within a known and acceptable range.
“We will not be led to assured annihilation by anyone or a group of people, still smarting from the electoral defeats of recent times and presumed exclusion from the process of decision-making.
Our people are knowledgeable enough to determine their interests at any point. If and when they consider self-determination as an option, they will not depend on external promptings to act. That is why we are different. That is why we are who we are” he said.
Recall that Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, a self-acclaimed Yoruba activist, had last week declared Yoruba as a separate nation and demanded the secession of the south-west states from Nigeria.
However, on Monday, Akeredolu said Ondo people have chosen to stay in Nigeria.
In commenting on the call for Southwestern State to leave Nigeria, Akredolu said that Ondo State has chosen to stay in Nigeria.
