Debo Ologunagba, the National Publicity Secretary elect, NPS of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP has revealed the plans of the party to rescue and rebuild the country.
He made these plans known while appearing as a guest on Channels TV Politics Today program monitored by The Matrix Newspaper.
According to Ologunagba, Nigeria is in a serious need to be rescued from the shackles of the ruling All-Progressives Congress, APC.
“PDP is poised to rescue and rebuild Nigeria, that is the message of the party to Nigerians. We all know that Nigeria requires rescuing, it’s been captured as it were by lies and propaganda, by ineptitude, by reckless leadership, by uneducated leadership.
When something is broken, what you first of all do is to rescue it so it doesn’t collapse, thereafter, you begin to rebuild it to where it was and we need to get back to these specifics” he stated.
Ologunagba noted that with the successful conduct of its convention and the capability that the party displayed in being able to organize itself against multi-dimensional conflicts and interest without rancour and deepening the cracks, the country should be handed back to the PDP to handle.
He noted that the internal working mechanism of the party is working effectively which was why it was able to reach a consensus on many of the positions.
“The government in power today has actually expanded the cracks in the country, there is mistrust, there is insecurity, we don’t trust our people anymore, within the regions and within the states where you have ethnicities.
With what we have been able to demonstrate at the party level, we can take that to the country at large” he added
He lamented that the issues of insecurity have eaten deep into the fabric of the country to the state where the country now have shared sovereignty between terrorist and the government.
“Insecurity is all over the place, a few Sundays ago, there was a report of Abuja-Kaduna Road being taken over by bandits in the afternoon by 3pm. What this means is that Nigeria now has shared sovereignty where the president is sovereign over a part and Boko Haram and other terrorist groups have sovereignty over another part, this is the frustration of many Nigerians.
What is the purpose of a government? Section 14 and subsection 2 of the constitution of Nigeria states that security and the welfare shall be the primary objective of the government, if a government fails in that, then, it means that that government has failed.
He also reserved some harsh criticism for the ruling APC as a congregation of people with different political interests.
“This is why the party has not been able to hold a national convention, they have tried holding a convention four times already without success. That is why they have a governor who constitutionally is impaired acting as the chairman of the party.
Section 183 of the constitution states that while he is governor, he cannot hold any other executive office or paid employment in any capacity whatsoever. Similarly in the constitution of the APC under Article 13 define the Chairman as a Chief Executive Officer.
We now have a case where one person is the CEO of a state and the CEO of a political party” he added.
