Timeline: Full Schedule Of Queen Elizabeth II’s State Funeral

On Monday, September 19, the state funeral of Queen Elizabeth II will take place following the monarch’s death at the age of 96 earlier this month. The Queen’s coffin has been lying-in-state with mourners queuing for several hours to pay their respects, but the coffin will soon move to Westminster Abbey for the final send-off.

The lying-in-state of Queen Elizabeth II formally ended at 6.30 am on Monday morning.

The Queen’s funeral will be a huge operation featuring members of the Royal Family and thousands of Armed Forces personnel.

Crowds are expected to line the funeral procession route in London and in Windsor, while 2,000 guests have been invited to attend the service at the Abbey.

She looked to the life of Christ and found some confidence and some guidance in the things he said and did. In a Christmas broadcast, in 1957, she talked about the need “to stand up for everything that we know is right”.

10.35 am: The Queen’s coffin will be carried by pall-bearers of the 1st Battalion Grenadier Guards from the catafalque where the coffin has lay-in-state for the last few days.

10.44 am: The Queen’s coffin will be moved on a gun carriage during a procession from Westminster Hall to Westminster Abbey.

10.52 am: The Queen’s coffin will arrive at the west gate of Westminster Abbey.

11 am: The Queen’s funeral will officially begin at the Abbey and will be conducted by the Dean of Westminster.

11.55 am: As the Queen’s funeral draws to a close, the Last Post will be played, followed by a two-minute silence across the nation and the National Anthem.

12.15 pm: The Queen’s coffin procession will begin through the capital, and will take the following route: From the Abbey via Broad Sanctuary, Parliament Square (south and east sides), Parliament Street, Whitehall, Horse Guards including Horse Guards Arch, Horse Guards Road, The Mall, Queen’s Gardens (south and west sides), Constitution Hill and Apsley Way.

1 pm: At Wellington Arch, the Queen’s coffin will be moved from the State Gun Carriage to the State Hearse just after 1 pm. The Queen’s coffin will then be transported to Windsor Castle in Berkshire.

As the Queen is laid to rest, many have questioned how Her Majesty’s coffin could be publicly displayed for so long.

3.06 pm: The Queen’s coffin is expected to arrive at Shaw Farm Gate, before looping up the Long Walk to Windsor Castle.

4 pm: A committal service will take place at St George’s Chapel, Windsor.

7.30 pm: A private interment service will take place in the King George VI Memorial Chapel. The Queen’s coffin will be laid to rest alongside Prince Philip’s coffin, which was interred in the Royal Vault.

King George VI, the Queen Mother and Princess Margaret are also buried in the Chapel.
